What does a moving labor crew actually do?
A labor-only crew handles the physical part of moving while you remain responsible for transportation.
For a rental-truck move, that usually means the customer rents and drives the truck while the crew handles
the lifting, carrying, loading or unloading. For a portable-container move, the container company moves the
container while the labor crew handles the belongings at the property.
Moving labor is also useful when transportation is irrelevant. If a sofa, dresser, bed or other furniture
needs to move from one part of a home to another, you can hire labor without paying for a moving truck you do not need.
The simplest way to decide: if you already have the truck, trailer, POD, container or storage
solution, you probably need moving labor. If you need someone to supply the truck and transport your belongings,
you probably need a moving company.
How many movers do I need?
The standard booking is for two movers. Two movers can handle many ordinary loading, unloading and furniture-moving jobs,
but crew size should not be guessed when the job includes unusually large or heavy furniture. That is why the booking form
asks a specific question: Do you have any furniture you think will require more than two movers?
If the answer is yes—or you are simply not sure—add a photo. A photo is often more useful than a vague description
because it shows the size, shape and construction of the item. It also gives the scheduling team more information before
the crew arrives.
Do not minimize a heavy item just to keep the booking simple. Mention anything you believe may need
more than two people. The goal is to schedule the job correctly before moving day, not discover a crew-size issue at the door.
How much moving labor time should I book?
The service has a three-hour labor minimum. The amount of time a specific job takes depends on the actual work:
how much furniture and how many boxes are being moved, how far items must be carried, whether there are stairs or elevators,
how close the truck or container can be positioned, and how ready the property is when the crew arrives.
Because those conditions can change the duration, this page does not pretend to know an exact final total from a few form fields.
Instead, the hourly rate and minimum are published clearly. That gives you a real rate to evaluate while keeping the final charge
tied to the work that actually occurs.
How to make hourly moving labor faster and easier
Hourly labor works best when the job is ready to start when the crew arrives. A few minutes of preparation can prevent the
crew from spending paid time waiting for access, searching for items or clearing a path.
- Have the rental truck, trailer, POD or container on site and accessible before the scheduled start time.
- Clear hallways, stairs and doorways so the crew has a safe path for carrying furniture.
- Finish packing boxes before the labor appointment when the booking is for loading or unloading rather than packing.
- Separate anything that is not supposed to be loaded.
- Tell the crew where large furniture is going before unloading begins.
- Have your own blankets and protection materials ready if you are not adding materials to the booking.
- Use the booking notes for access information that could affect the job.
